eCommerce for Oracle EBS
Oracle iStore has been the flagship eCommerce product that Oracle launched in 2000 that is integrated with various functionalities of Oracle E-Business Suite. This integration works to its benefit since there are few eCommerce platforms out in the market which sits on top of an ERP foundation and back-end applications along with its own comprehensive Java and PL/SQL programming and logic.
However the same advantage can work against iStore if and when, for any reason, Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) goes down for maintenance or is sluggish in its performance. Although there have been newer releases of Oracle EBS (latest being R12.2.6), no significant functionalities have been added to iStore between R12.1.X and R12.2.X, except for the fact Oracle EBS uses Weblogic instead of Oracle Apache. This has added a new dimension to the complex tech stack when business related customizations can pose its own set of challenges.
There are definitely other options, much easier and cost-effective, that can be used in place of Oracle iStore without compromising on the integrations to Oracle EBS.
